Raw Milk: Good or Bad?

These are some scary facts about pasturized milk...they are good things to keep in mind.

Facts about bacteria, milk and the pasteurization process:

  • An average adult is meant to have approximately six pounds of good bacteria in their intestinal tract
  • Antibiotic drugs kill both good and bad bacteria indiscriminately
  • When good bacteria are killed, yeast proliferates throughout the entire system, eventually invading the lungs
  • Raw whole milk contain lactic-acid producing bacteria that protect against pathogens (harmful disease-causing agents). These bacteria protect against milk being contaminated

What does pasteurization do to our milk?:

  • Kills beneficial bacteria, making milk more susceptible to salmonella contamination
  • Heat alters amino acids, making proteins less available
  • Destroys vitamin C by 50% and other nutrients by up to 80%
  • Totally destroys vitamin B 12 needed to prevent anemia and nervous disorders; it also affects fertility and normal growth
  • Causes minerals to be less available for absorption: calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulphur and other trace minerals
  • Strains the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes that have been destroyed through heat
  • Destroys all digestive enzymes needed for absorbing nutrients in the small intestine (including calcium -which leads to osteoporosis)
  • Prevents the digestion of butterfat needed for dissolving and absorbing vitamins
  • Pasteurized milk puts a tremendous strain on the digestive system. (It is no wonder that so many people are intolerant).
  What happens after pasteurization?

  • After pasteurization, chemicals are added to the milk to suppress odor and restore taste
  • Synthetic vitamin D 2 and D 3 are added. The former is toxic and latter difficult to digest
  • Powdered skimmed milk is added. This has been dehydrated causing beneficial natural cholesterol to oxidize, rendering it harmful to the arteries. It also creates carcinogens (cancer causing substances) and free glutamic acid, which is toxic to the nervous system
  • In some people, insufficient digestion of milk causes it to build up around the villi in the small intestine, preventing absorption of other vital nutrients
(These facts are taken from Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon pgs 33-35)

I don't drink pasteurized milk. Just saying....

P.S. Mom did the research, not I.
